Primarily established by the British military administration in 1945 as first place of asylum for refugees, displaced persons, returning prisoners of war and ethnic German repatriates after World War Two, ‘Lager Friedland’ today is the last remaining camp of initial reception for repatriates from the former Soviet Union with a capacity to house 10,000 persons.
